Jose is long gone, having died in 1913, but his work as an engraver and illustrator and printmaker remains popular. Born in Mexico in 1852, he is best known for his Cavalera's work (of skulls), and his depictions of the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Jose was a hugely influential to contemporary modern Mexican art but sadly died alone and poor, shortly after his wife passed away.
