Through The Lens

Now we love flickr, but for Rosie Hardy it's a lot more than just a site filled with amazing photography. She met the love of her life Aaron on there. Rosie lives in England and Aaron in the United States and their love of photography brought them together. Awww

There's not a whole lot we know about Don O'Brien, but the guy ain't young and he's a photojournalist. THe shot on the far left is him with his first camera taken Christmas 1935.

It notes that "My Kodak Brownie used 616 film to produce images 2 1/4" x 4 1/4:. I developed the 8-exposure rolls of Verichrome film in trays under a dim red safelight. Then I made prints over a light box made from a wooden orange crate"...one dedicated kid.

Flickr is a godsend. There are so many incredibly creative people posting about all the wonderful shots they are taking that it can be a bit overwhelming.

Emir Ozsahin is one such person. We can't find out a lot about him, but he's based in Istanbul in Turkey and is apparently only 21 years of age. Hmmm, we're not sure about the age thing, but after seeing Olivia Bee's work, who is to tell?

Here are some okay pics of bicycles. To be honest, we couldn't find a lot out there for today's Through The Lens, which we found a bit mystifying. So if you have any suggestions, or you yourself have taken some wicked shots, please email them over...

Susannah is a photographer based in Bath, England who has captured the sea in a poetic way. The images feel real, yet romantic.

Susannah's partner died suddenly in 2005, and tit was then that she again picked up a camera after a hiatus from studying, and the camera has offered her a meditative tool.

Her works shown here are part of Unravelling, a series of works for exhibition and sale.

There's not much we can find out about Olivia Bee, except she's only 15, lives in Oregon, would love her whole room to be filled with balloons, would like to one day work at Vogue, and a lot of her work is self portraits.

We also like that she said "I try to because if I take a photo everyday, then by a year's end, I will have learned 365 things about photography and that's pretty rad". Yes it is Olivia Bee.

Simply Breakfast has been a blog that's been going for quite some time now. A lady called Jen who resides in Brooklyn started posting by photographing her breakfast each morning and the blog took off. So much so that she has now published two books. One of which we bought here at Distillate. And to be honest, there's nothing there that's not on the blog, and the quality isn't great either. You can buy individual prints in her online shop though...
